They’re Going to Think I’m SO Annoying
When the marketing team I recently started working with sent me ad copy to review, I didn’t love it.
I sent it back with some minor changes.
When the revisions came back to me for approval, I noticed a grammatical error.
My heartbeat sped up. My mind started to race. I started to feel anxious.
I couldn’t ask them to change it again.
I already asked them to change it once. There must be some kind of limit I’m going to exceed. They’re going to think I am SO annoying.
I had to take a pause.
I had to think about my goal.
Was I trying to achieve an ad that I liked or was I trying to get these people to like me?
It can be so easy to lose sight of what’s important when we are people-pleasing. Rejection can feel like the end of the world, so we avoid it at all cost. Even if it means paying for an ad we don’t like. Or saying yes to something we really don’t want to do. Or avoiding conflict by doing everything ourselves instead of asking for help.
But when you speak up for yourself and honor your needs, you teach yourself that you matter.
So, the next time you are worried about what someone else might think of you, ask yourself what you are trying to accomplish.
You’ve got this. I believe in you,
Suzanne
